The Village of Pinehurst in Moore County, NC was established in 1898 and incorporated as a municipality in 1980. It was conceived by James Walker Tufts. He hired the Frederick Law Olmstead firm to design it. Then Donald Ross was brought on board to design the golf course. History was made, and continues to be made at Pinehurst. Pinehurst Resort has three hotels: The Carolina, The Holly Inn, and The Manor. There are eight golf courses at Pinehurst; no names, just numbers 1 – 9.The whole area is referred to as “Pinehurst”.
